Say What You Mean - Tame The Tongue

How often do we say something on the spur of the moment and not follow through? "Let's meet for coffee next week - and then not getting in touch for several weeks after as an example.

For 2014 I am determining to live my life with purpose. Speak with purpose and think about things before I say anything. I believe there is Scriptural mandate for this but some of us tend to speak our mind without engaging our brain first.

Matthew 5:37  Let your Yes be simply Yes, and your No be simply No; anything more than that comes from the evil one. Be strong in your convictions. Say what you mean and mean what you say. This is my motto for 2014.

Think about things before you say them and IF you say anything be convicted through your words.

Be careful what we say:

“There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.” – Proverbs 12:18, ESV

Be careful how we respond to what others say:

“A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.” – Proverbs 15:1, ESV

Be careful the kinds of things we say:

“Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.” – Ephesians 4:29, ESV

Don’t Speak Hurtful Words, even when you feel like you are justified:

“Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them.” – Romans 12:14, ESV

This is just a start of ALL of the verses in the Scriptures that talk about how we should be careful what we say and how we say it.

Let us speak with purpose through 2014. Come and like my page on Facebook and follow me as I share the Commands of the Word that we should be living each day
